Recommendation Report

My client requested that I create a recommendation report for the following scenario:

“You’re a consultant for Quantum Associates Consulting, a private consulting firm that’s been hired by Northern Plains Community College in Cleveland, Ohio. You are to conduct research into the feasibility of requiring each Northern Plains student to have some international study abroad, from a short-term faculty-led experience of 10-14 days to a full semester-long experience. What are the advantages of such an experience? What are the potential drawbacks?”

Any additional information in this recommendation report relating to the details of this scenario, such as the college’s address and why the college wanted the recommendation report, is fictitious and created by me for this project.

My client also made it clear that the student’s recommendation report was supposed to have a minimum of 10 pages and at least 3 sources. The recommendation report also need to have the following parts: a transmittal letter, title page, a table of contents, an executive summary, an introduction, headings for other major sections, conclusions with recommendations, and a reference page.

Two weeks after creating this recommendation report, my client also requested that I create an outline for a hypothetical extemporaneous presentation based on their recommendation report. They also wanted at least 5 PowerPoint slides to accompany this presentation.

I created the original PowerPoint with optional slide transitions. These transitions are not present in the PDF.

This was my favorite project in my technical writing course. I enjoyed conducting the research for this project and then creating a presentation based on that research. If I had to expand on this project, I would focus on additional research. This is because I believe there is more information available that could reinforce the conclusions presented in this report. I also believe that in the case of a real presentation, there would be more questions about the college could pursue the recommendations presented in this report. So, while this is a solid recommendation report for the technical writing class, if I was to continue this project in a business setting, I would expand on the research presented to further solidify the conclusions and present more specific recommendations.
