The Liberty Champion: AP Writing

While at Liberty University, I had the opportunity to learn the Associated Press (AP) writing style by volunteering with the university’s newspaper, the Liberty Champion. I mainly worked with the newspaper’s feature content.

Every week, an editor would send out the budget. This budget listed what business, event, club, or person each reporter would create an article for. It would also list a couple of contacts to get the student started.

Usually, articles were written and submitted every week. However, this deadline could be adjusted based on the student’s schedules and the size of the project.

I treasure the experiences I had with the Liberty Champion. The Liberty Champion helped me meet amazing people and learn their personal stories. These stories have impacted my personal views and changed my perspective on life. Working on these projects has also empowered me to go beyond my comfort zone and helped me develop important communication, interview, and writing skills.

Overall, my experiences as the Liberty Champion demonstrate my ability to adapt easily to different situations and writing styles. It also demonstrates my versatility as a writer.
